Lactic acid is the most researched AHA after glycolic acid, and has been shown to even skin tone, hydrate the skin, fade signs of aging such as fine lines and sun damage, strengthen and protect the skin barrier and balance the skin's microbiome. Lactic acid is also a component of the skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF), a blend of compounds naturally found in the skin that help maintain moisture.
