Marshmallow root, or Althaea officinalis, is a natural plant extract from the marshmallow plant.
Within skincare, it is primarily used as an emollient (skin-softener) thanks to its polysaccharide content, and helps to protect the skin's natural supply of intensely hydrating hyaluronic acid. Due to its antioxidant effects, marshmallow root is adept at protecting the skin from potential aggressors and curbing signs of aging, and has soothing, calming and protective benefits.
