Your skin is made up of three main layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the hypodermis. The dermis is the middle layer, and the thickest layer of skin.
The dermis is rich in collagen and elastin, and is responsible for protecting your body from harm and producing oil to keep your skin hydrated, whilst also experiencing sensations such as pressure, heat, pain and cold. The dermis holds all your connective tissues, nerve endings, sweat glands and hair follicles.
