Retinoid is used to describe any compound or ingredient that is derived from vitamin A.
The benefits of retinoids vary, some are adept at treating acne, whilst others focus on fighting signs of aging or reducing hyperpigmentation, UV damage or inflammation. The most commonly used topical retinoid is retinol, but retinoic acid or retinyl palmitate are also regularly seen within skincare, with all three beneficial for smoothing and brightening the skin.
