Sodium lauryl sulfate (or SLS) is commonly used as a sulfate or anionic surfactant within skincare - utilized for its foaming ability which binds dirt and impurities on the skin making them easier to remove.
SLS is one of the more sensitizing cleansing agents used in skincare, but whilst it may have a detrimental effect on skin, it is not detrimental to health, despite prior erroneous claims.
